Scheduling a Free Initial Consultation
Once you contact me for individual or couples therapy, we will set up a half-hour introductory phone consultation at no charge. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the therapy, and for me to find out about what your goals are and how I may help.
If you are inquiring about couples therapy, both you and your partner are welcome to be on the introductory call, however if you would prefer that only one of you be present, that is fine as well.
After the phone call, if you decide to move forward with therapy, we will schedule our first in-person meeting. In general, I am able to schedule your first appointment to take place within one to two weeks of our initial phone consultation.

I Am an Out-of-Network Provider
As an out-of-network provider, I do not accept your insurance plan. However, I am happy to provide you with a statement of payment at the end of each month for you to submit to your insurance company. Many insurance companies provide reimbursement for services rendered by out-of-network providers. Check with your insurance company prior to making an appointment with me to determine if they reimburse for services. Below are helpful questions to ask when you call your insurance provider.
Questions to Ask Your Insurer to Determine Reimbursement Eligibility:
Do I have out-of-network benefits to see a licensed therapist? If yes, what percentage of the cost of treatment do you cover?
How many sessions are covered per year?
Do I have a deductible and has it been met?
For individual therapy: Do you reimburse for CPT Codes 90837 (Individual Therapy 60min), and 99354 (30-74 min following the initial 90837)?
For couples therapy: Do you reimburse for CPT Code 90847 (Family Therapy with the Patient Present)?
What forms do I need to submit to qualify for reimbursement?
How My Practice Works
Therapy requires a very active effort on your part. Commitment to the process helps get you through challenging times.
I invite you to discuss any concerns and questions regarding your therapy and feelings about your therapist with me for the duration of your treatment. I will ask for your feedback and views on your therapy, and its progress and other aspects of the therapy and will expect you to respond openly and honestly.
Individual therapy sessions are ninety minutes in length and the sessions are held weekly.
In order to gain maximum benefit, please be on time.
Once we start working together, we take the first three sessions for me to get an in-depth understanding of the person you are. This includes a detailed history, your reasons for coming to counseling now and your goals for treatment.
After this, I want to help you develop insight and skills that will allow you to deal with whatever challenges you are facing. I believe in empowering you to understand your own life and generate your own creative solutions. It’s the process of overcoming difficulties that helps you build resilience for the future.
The first couples therapy session must be scheduled for three hours. The longer session length allows me to get a very good idea of every aspect of your relationship. By the end of the first session, we will have an understanding of exactly why you are experiencing problems as a couple and a clear treatment plan for how the therapy is going to help you, moving forward.
At that time, I will also be able to make a recommendation regarding session frequency as well as how long I think the course of therapy will likely take, based on my initial assessment of your problems and goals. Most couples attend therapy anywhere between one and four times per month.
Subsequent couples therapy sessions (if needed) are usually two hours in length until it is appropriate to reduce the session length to one hour.
Both partners are required to attend all couples therapy sessions.
In order to gain maximum benefit, please be on time.
Therapy intensives for relationship problems can be very useful in certain cases but should not be viewed as a replacement for ongoing couples therapy. When a couple intensive is sought, a variety of scheduling options are possible. For instance, three to four consecutive days with three to four hours of therapy per day. Please call if you are interested in a couples therapy weekend intensive.
If you are coming from out-of-town, I will ensure that I make an appropriate referral for a marriage and family therapist in your home town so that you have continuity of care after the intensive.
